Arizona Hands & Voices Brings Information, Support and Hope
Phoenix, Arizona, August 1, 2008 – “Your child has a hearing loss” is heard throughout the state of Arizona on an almost daily basis with more than 300 children born Deaf or Hard of Hearing each year. Parents are rarely ready to hear such news. Many emotions envelop them as they hear the audiologist describe their child’s hearing loss. That hearing loss can range from a mild loss to profoundly deaf. The decisions that face the family in that moment are overwhelming. Arizona Hands & Voices is bringing information, support and hope to Arizona families who receive the news that their child is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
On September 13, 2008 from 8:30a.m to 4:00p.m Arizona Hands and Voices will hold their Fall Expo at ASU’s newly renovated Memorial Union. Local and national organizations will be on hand to provide information about goods and services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Expo participants will receive access to the exhibitors as well as breakfast, lunch and a variety of classes geared toward empowering parents in raising a child who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Childcare will be available for older children (no diapers) during workshops. Sign language interpreters, Spanish interpreters, and CART services will be provided.
